SMART (Specific Methodologies And Resources for Radio Trainers) is addressed to radio trainers in community media and offers selected and valid training exercises and methods even to specific target groups to create radio trainings. It was about producing a training tool that would prevail over time, and no disappear at the end of the project. SMART on-line tool brings together the training experience of community radios but also adapted activities to be used with people with learning difficulties, vision impaired, and migrant women.

 From 17 to 18 October 2019 the team around the SMART Erasmus+ project held a coordination meeting in Aarau, Switzerland with participants from Hungary, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Ireland. The main goal was to plan the next steps for a pilot training in March 2020 and assess the results from the developed training and gain important feedback on the next steps of the development of the training modules.

The project is coordinated by Radio Corax (Halle/GER) and partners with NEAR FM (Dublin/IRE)Antxeta Irratia (Basque/FRA)Radioschool klipp+klang (Zürich/CH)COMMIT (Vienna/AUT)CMFE (Brussels/BEL) and AMARC Europe (Brussels/BEL).

From 4 – 7 June 2019 the team around the SMART Erasmus+ project held its first training of trainer pilot training in Budapest, Hungary. The training workshop hosted 10 participants from Hungary, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Sweden, Denmark, Ireland and the Bask country to test and assess the developed training and gain important feedback on the next steps of the development of the training modules. AMARC Europe and CMFE presented a discussion paper on training certification in the context of community media. Here are some impressions from the training course in Budapest. SMART Trainers will focus on dissemination and also improvement of existing resources, and more importantly, to make it a reference for trainers in community radio in Europe.

SMART Trainers aims to create a syllabus for train the trainers course about using the online ressource of SMART and get to know the ideas behind; to create assessment methodologies for the learning outcome of the train the trainer course. Furthermore, the European organizations AMARC Europe and CMFE will discuss and weight the implementation of a certified or recommended SMART Train the Trainer.

Partners in the project are: Radio Corax (Ger), Near media coop (Irl), Civil Radio (Hu), COMMIT (AUT), Antxeta Irratia (F/Basque), AMARC Europe (EU), CMFE (EU) and Radioschool klipp+klang (CH).

The project started in October 2018 and will end in September 2020. It is funded by the ERASMUS+ – Strategic Partnerships for adult education of the European Commission.
