TUNISIA: Radio equipment seized by authorities
Feb, 25, 2014. On February 25 Customs officials and the police attacked the premises of an independent radio in Tunis, Sarraha Radio, which broadcasts on FM with its own broadcasting devices, like most of the new radios born in Tunisia after the revolution of 2011. The technical equipments were seized.
Following this fact, a demonstration has been organized the 28th of February but the journalists covering the event have been attacked and beaten by the police. The 3rd of March a protest sit in in front of the Ministry of Interior has been organized: participants called the authorities to respect the security and integrity of journalists.
A delegation of the journalists was able to meet the Ministry spokesman who formally apologized for the violences against journalists.
The STRL strongly condemns the attack orchestrated by the authorities against Radio Sarraha and the Tunisian independent radio sector.
